Originally named Calico Corners, the city of Grantville was renamed to honor a railroad President and recognize the influence of the railroad on the community's development. In the mid to late 1800s, the city flourished with economic and residential growth. Many of the lovely homes built by successful entrepreneurs still grace the city streets, shaded by ancient trees and surrounded by meticulously groomed landscaping. Two of the finest historic sites are bonnie Castle, a Victorian Romanesque built in 1896, and the Smith-Wilson House, featuring a Civil War cannonball. Residents enjoy a small-town atmosphere in close proximity to Newnan's educational and healthcare services. Nearly every imaginable outdoor activity is available close to home in regional and state parks.
